This section introduces some concepts used in the Device Monitoring Studio.

Monitoring Session

Monitoring session refers to the one individual device monitoring session. It consists of the selected monitored device or network interface, its settings and one or more data processors. Data processors are data visualizers and other special processing modules configured for the session.

Multiple monitoring sessions form a workspace.

Workspace

Workspace consists of:

  • Active monitoring sessions. An active monitoring session is a session that is actively monitors and processes (displays) data.
  • Tool windows positions, if the Save tools configuration with workspace option in Tools|Settings, General Tab is enabled.
  • Serial Terminal sessions.
  • Opened scripts, if Include scripting configuration into workspace option in Tools|Settings, General Tab is enabled. See also Scripting.

Data Source

The source of monitoring. The current version of the Device Monitoring Studio supports the following data sources:

  • USB Monitoring
  • Serial Monitoring
  • Network Monitoring
  • Serial Bridge
  • Log File Playback (Playback in user interface)
