This Monitoring Session type represents the virtual bridge between two distinct serial devices connected to two computer serial ports. The devices must be connected using the so-called null-modem cable.

Null-modem cable is a simple cable with two jacks, which connects two RS-232 ports of two DTEs. It connects grounds, RD and TD cross-wise, and other signals are connected according to one of the schemes provided below. The set of transferred channels can be reduced, depending on the flow control being used, in most cases you need as much as only three wires (ground, RD and TD):

Serial Bridge Configuration Window

This window allows you to configure the bridging between two computer serial ports. It consists of two groups, called New Bridge and Existing Bridges.

Existing Bridges group lists all bridges you created since you started the Device Monitoring Studio. Each bridge may be in one of two states - running and stopped. When you create a new bridge it is in Stopped state by default.

Click on the bridge in the Existing Bridges group to open the Session Configuration window. After you click the Start button in the Session Configuration window, the bridge enters into the running state.

You can optionally name each of the participating devices, so the visualizers look more natural.

New Bridge

Open the New Bridge group to create a new bridge. Enter the bridge configuration parameters into the corresponding fields and click the Create Bridge button.

After you create a new bridge, it gets listed in the Existing Bridges list. If you are replacing a currently running bridge, the system displays a warning.
